The Debut Duplex was the first Custom by Kuntz home renovation! With a main floor bathroom renovation including a walk-in shower, custom wood walls and floating shelves, and a full-size deck reconstruction, this 1880’s duplex became a desirable rental property in the heart of the West 7th neighborhood of Saint Paul.

The Custom by Kuntz team gutted and reframed each room of the house, with only plastic wrap separating the living area from the construction area. LOTS of dusting was required throughout the process!
The original bathroom was the size of a closet—it even had a bi-fold closet door as its only entrance into the room. Matt and Juli completely demoed it, reframed it to double the size, and turned it into an oversized bathroom with a walk-in shower. We also incorporated custom wood walls, floating shelves, reclaimed wood desk tops, and barn doors throughout the home, highlighting Matt’s woodworking expertise. As one of our final projects before selling the home, we removed the deck off of the back of the home and replaced it with a deck twice the original size, including a bar height table, which we enjoyed entertaining at many times.
This home will always have a special place in Matt and Juli’s hearts not only as our first renovation, but because we got married at nearby Irvine Park and took wedding photos in the backyard. On the warmest summer nights, we would sit on their deck and the entire yard would light up with fireflies.
